TRAFFIC SAFETY ACT
Changes: Vehicle Equipment Regulation
The Traffic Safety Act included changes to vehicle equipment rules that your service shop should be aware of:
- Daytime running lights, anti-lock braking system and the center high mounted brake lights must be maintained in proper working order
. Shops are no longer allowed to disable these systems and must inform the consumer of their legal responsibility to maintain them.
- All lights on vehicles must comply with the Transport Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standard for lights on a vehicle. It is an offence to drive a vehicle equipped with lights not authorized by the legislation.
If you install lights that are required by Transport Canada (headlights, marker lights, brake lights, back-up lights, turn signals, etc.) those lights must be SAE standard and colour!
